HOLIDAY COTTAGE TO LET
GITTISHAM, DEVON, ENGLAND
Webbers is a Grade 2 listed cottage, available for holiday lets,
in the enchanting village of Gittisham in East Devon.

THE AREA : GITTISHAM, EAST DEVON

Gittisham is set in the rich and fertile lowlands of East Devon, about a couple of miles south west of Honiton and under Gittisham Hill, from which astounding views to the north and west, as far as Dartmoor, can be enjoyed. After leaving Honiton, the beautiful River Otter meanders between the twin scarps of East Hill and West Hill until it debouches into the sea a few miles south at Budleigh Salterton.

The village of Gittisham is very accessible yet completely unspoilt. It is close to the bustling market town of Honiton, which has a market on Tuesdays and Saturdays, plus lots of interesting little shops, good restaurants and gastro pubs. Honiton is also famous for its numerous antique shops and has a main-line railway service to Exeter and Waterloo.

Ottery St Mary, with its magnificent church (modelled on Exeter cathedral) is less than four miles away.  Ottery is famous for being the birthplace of the famous poet, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, author of 'The Ancient Mariner' and co-author, with William Wordsworth, of 'Lyrical Ballads', which changed English poetry for ever. Ottery has a very fine church, situated besides the ancestral home of the Coleridges. The Coleridge family still live in the town

The A30 allows easy access to Exeter, a great cathedral city and one of the five main cities of England in Saxon days (the Queen still has as one of her titles ‘Paramount Queen of Exeter’). At Central Station, Exeter is the terminus for the Waterloo train line and at St David’s Station is also on the Great Western railway line from Paddington to Penzance.  Escot House and Cadhay, popular for weddings and other events, are very close.

From Exeter it is a simple journey by car or rail to the magic of the South Hams and Dartmoor. From Honiton, it is a simple journey south to beautiful Sidmouth and that other jewel of the East Devon coast, gracious Budleigh Salterton, and the quaint smugglers’ villages of Branscombe and Beer. The romantic and remote Blackdown Hills are only a few minutes north of Gittisham and can be easily accessed from Honiton.

Combe House Hotel is only a few minutes walk away for that special occasion.
